Educational Coloring Book

Yesterday I met Jesus Daniel Lopez Tirado, who is the manager of Al Instante, the print shop across the street from the Gaviotas movie theaters. Here is his contact info:

Anyway, he showed me a beautiful coloring book created by his wife. Images of the cover and first page are below:

Larger images of the and the are available. He is in the process of putting displays up in various locations to sell his coloring books. Now, here are my ideas.

  1. We should create a similar coloring book, talking about the care and treatment of pets. My suggested title is Kindness Works.
  2. As part of the collection box effort, we could jointly manage the displays of the books.
  3. The coloring book can be given away for free at the shelter for everyone who adopts a pet.
  4. We should consider giving half of the space in the book to Conrehabit, and have them contribute some pages.

Alison and Martha volunteered for this Project.

Alison will do the art work and English Text and Martha will do the Spanish Translation. Martha and I will get together after the 15th of this month.

Theme is Kindness Works!

  1. Show dog on leash being walked by child (child with poop) bag
  2. I love clean fresh food and water.
  3. I love to be brushed when I start to shed my hair for both cats and dogs.
  4. When I do something you don't like, do not hurt me, I won't understand what I did wrong?
  5. Teach me what you want me to do with kindness and play.
  6. When you talk to me talk softly it is your tone of your voice that I understand.
  7. Love me. It is all I need in this world!

Here are some caption ideas for the items Nadine presented above.

  1. I love to show off my master when I walk with him (or her), but please, since I can't use your bathroom, be kind to your neighborhood and your city, and clean up after me. Kindess works!
  2. Other than being with you, dear master, I love to eat good food and drink clean water. But remember, you must look out for me and do what is best for me. Even though I beg you for a bite of your candy or taco, it is better for me to eat my own special food. Kindess is keeping me healthy!
  3. If I could, I would comb your hair and wash your body for you, but I can not. But I really love it when you do these kind things for me! To show you how much I love it, please let me kiss your hands. Kindess is keeping me clean.
  4. I want to please you, my dear master, but you need to teach me how. I will not understand why you punish me, but I will be really happy if you reward me when I do what you want me to do, and I will try to do it some more. Kindness is teaching me.
  5. I love to play almost as much as you do. I especially like to play with you! Let's play tug of war, fetch, run around yard, or make the rubber ducky squeak! Kindness is playing with me.
  6. You are so much smarter than I am, dear master, and as much as I try I just can't understand your language. But I do understand your tone! I know when you are happy, and when you are mad. If you watch me closely, maybe you can learn how to understand my language, like when my ears are up, my head is down, or my tail is wagging. Kindness is learning how to talk and listen to me.
  7. All I want to do is to be with you and love you, dear master. I am sad when you are gone, and happy when I can see you again. Please give me time to love, dear boy. Kindness is having love in your heart.

I mocked up a clip art version of a coloring book. This is an 8.5 x 11 sheet split in two (so the booklet is 5.5 x 8.5) with some text mocked in. I can switch this to 8.5 x 11 easily. Would need someone to translate the text into Spanish as mine is not so good right now.

note to CateBramble

Cate, if you will attach your sample by going to the paperclipped sheet symbol (almost at the far right of the toolbar (kwiki) symbols, you can properly attach and upload your sample. I doesn't come through the way you did it.

From Alison Cunningham Henry, I have already done all the Artwork (hand painted), for the book, KINDNESS WORKS. I have also finished the text according to yours and Nadine's script. I have also completed the Spanish translation, awating Martha's inspection. Had my neighbor help me with that. I will be meeting with Martha on the 15th, to show her how I have arranged the pages of the book. she will then give me her text in Spanish and English and I will complete the Artwork for her Wild Life entries, which, she mentioned will be about 6 pages. After it is all 'put together,' you & Nadine can inspect it. But it's done. Will be showing the pages to Jo on Thursday. Showed it to Chuck yesterday and he thought it was great and that was good. If there is something else that David and Cate would like to add to the already existing pages, they need to contact me so I'll know how much more needs to be done. But as I said, my section is done. Martha is a very busy girl and I don't mind doing the bulk of things, just to help out. But I will be talking to her.

The Color Book, KINDNESS WORKS has been completed by Alison Cunningham with Spanish Translation by Martha and Alma. It is for sale at this time.

Charities - 10 pesos. Businesses - 20 pesos and General Public - 30 pesos. You may purchase the book from Alison. Call 136-0773 or email CALISON613@aol.com
