Sending Money Here
Marlene Santana - 10 Apr 2003 I would highly recommend you send a Western Union payment to him. A foreign check is difficult for them to cash here, especially Canadian dollars. Western Union is fast and secure, even though it may cost you a fee to send your money.

Direct Deposit
Henry Laxen - 29 Oct 2003 Direct deposit has several advantages. You never have to worry about your check being delayed in the mail, lost or stolen. With direct deposit, you receive your payment much faster than if you are paid by check (usually 1 to 3 weeks faster than check deliveries). When direct deposit payments are sent to a financial institution, you also avoid check cashing and currency conversion fees.
To determine if direct deposit is available in the country where you or to sign up for direct deposit contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate or U.S. Social Security office, or write to the Social Security Administration, P.O. Box 17769, Baltimore, Maryland 21235-7769, USA.

Your Electric Bill Online
Marlene Santana - 25 Nov 2003 I am remembering the discussions we have had here about electricity and the bills, so I want to share something very cool that I learned. We can actually get our electricty bills delivered via email only hours after the meter reader has tromped through the neighborhood. No more waiting for the bill courier to bring the news late in the day!
The CFE website is http://www.cfe.gob.mx (there is a little tiny icon on the top right corner English next to the envelope icon) Sign up is easy and you can view your latest bill online at any time. When the new bill is released it will be sent to your email inbox. Isn't that great? (I don't usually get this excited about receiving bills!)
Do have your current CFE bill in front of you when you are ready to sign up, and don't leave spaces between the account numbers as they show in the example...there is no room for the spaces. Other than that, just remember your log on name (probably your real name) and the password. It is really easy and definitely worth signing up for. If you have questions or need any help with it, please contact us.
Tell Your Credit Card Company that you are going to Mexico
Marlene Santana - 29 Nov 2003 The credit card companies have made it clear that they want you to notify them prior to you leaving your country. It is a security measure for your protection, and it will save you some embarrassment while shopping or after a nice dinner out.
