I am planning a trip to Mazatlán from May 27 to June 3rd 2007. I am travelling alone and have heard that there will be fewer crowds at that time. I want to avoid the U.S. college kids but want to enjoy the nightlife (mid to late 20's age group), do some partying and mix it up with the locals. Am I going at the right time or should I reschedule for later on in the summer? Please help!!

Nadine & Henry, WOW! AMAZING! Info beyond what we hoped to find before our arrival 12/31. You have provided so much varied data that we hope we have time before our departure to review all of it. Your love and devotion for Mazatlán shows through time and time again. What we have looked at thus far makes us envious that we did not discover Mazatlán years ago. Our anticipation of our journey has increased manifold after viewing your site. GREAT JOB! Larry & Karen

I just returned from Mazatlán about a week ago, and I miss it already! An old schoolmate and I spent a week at El Cid Marina where we had a ball! Your website was essential in our good time. It was my first trip to Mexico, and I really felt as if I knew my way around upon arriving. Thank you so much for all the photos and information. Of all the Mazatlán research I've done over the past year in preparation for our trip, your website was certainly the most valuable for our needs. Thanks again! Sincerely, Amy Melvin

Dear Henry and Nadine, My boyfriend and I are planning our first trip to Mazatlán to celebrate New Year's. We will be there for eight days and seven nights, staying at the Los Sábalos (I hope it's as decent as it seems from the photos!) We have visited your site NUMEROUS times since we discovered it and have found it to be the best resource yet for nearly everything we need to know. There is just one thing missing at this point...What are all the events for New Year's Eve? All I can tell is that you have enjoyed yourselves at the El Cid, but what else is there to do? I don't know if you have the time to answer every email, as this seems to be such a popular site, but I hope you can give us some tips on all of the festivities Maz has to offer for the celebration. I would hope to run into you all sometime while we are there, we feel like we already know you! Thanks again! Judy and Lee

Hi. My friend and I are attempting to arrange a trip over Christmas to the Orfanatario Mazaltan to spread some Christmas cheer. However, we are students and low-budget is definatly key. I was hoping someone could help me with some information with a cheap hotel (keyword being cheap) near the orphanage which is on Zaragosa Centro or maybe a campground nearby. I know I am not supposed to ask but I am finding it very difficult to find rates and precious time is dwindling. Thank you so much for anyone who can help me and give me any advice whatsoever. I have never visited Mexico before however, my friend has and says that Mazaltan is beautiful. Her trip was planned so that she could be around the touristy area which is something that I am trying to avoid. ChristyAllan@student.luzerne.edu

Henry, Thanks for the weather on the website. I check it everyday when I'm at home to see what's happening to my boat. I've noticed lately that your barometric pressure seems to indicate much lower that others in the area. On Sunday morning 11/26/06 at 10:30 am, the site in El Centro shows 29.94. The site at Playa Escondida shows 29.89. The airport shows 29.97, but yours shows 26.10. These readings were taken from wunderground.com. You might want to check the calibration of your barometer as it does seem a bit low. Vic Jewhurst, S/V Charisma, Marina Mazatlán, Elk Grove, CA

Hola!! Todo gracias for your website. It was so far the most informative I found on the web. It was my second time in Mazatlán and my husband's 1st. We both found your restaurant recommendations and places to go very informative. You are right about Heather's Place. I love her Chilaquiles and french toast as well as her every Friday Ladies' Night (1/2 off the regular price menu), my husband and I loved the Coconut Shrimp and the Filet Mignon with Shrimp and bacon. The filet mignon was better there than Angelo's. We were there for breakfast 3x during our stay and once for dinner. I am quite craving her coconut shrimp. We also used your coupons for Aquario and Los Arcos, forgot to use the coupon for La Costa. We also took the Copala tour per your recommendation, it was very educational although it was unusually hot and humid when we were there (10/9-15/06), also make sure to have the banana coconut cream pie at Daniel's Restaurant in Copala(my husband hates cooked coconut but absolutely love the pie). We stayed at the Pueblo Bonito and had fun walking around. Food places worth mentioning - Angelo's for calamari and Banana flambee. PB's room service for Creme Brulee, Chilis Peppers-good service, fresh garlic shrimp ( although Heather's better/fresher) and the beef molcajete is so good that I ate the left over the next day. I will have to say I enjoyed this trip more because of your website. I must comment that it is a lot cleaner than I remembered from 4 years ago. Once person I always go to buy quality turtle carvings that always cheaper and don't have to worry about the price is a store beside Costa De Oro. Oscar's stall is about 4-5 stalls on the left side once you enter the small market area. It is not hard to miss Oscar, as he usually wear a white collared shirt and a belt bag. His stall is not hard to miss as all his stuff is glass encased. He only sells silver jewelry, masked made of shell, shell figurines, obsidian rock turtkes and hand carved spears. Not much of the tourist junk but mostly quality souvenirs. Thanks again for your website. We will be looking forward to coming back to Mazatlán as it is a good place to relax and do nothing. I just wanted to say BUENAS DIAS, GRACIAS, y TAMBIEN POQUITO MAS. GOOD MORNING, I hope it is a beautiful day and that every thing is going great for you. THANK YOU for all your time and effort in creating and maintaining this wonderful website. It is very rare to find a site that is so informative, entertaining, and inspirational. Please keep up the good work. ALSO A LITTLE MORE to offer your readers some additional information. I have not covered all of your wonderful website but it seems that the two things I remember most about Mazatlán received only casual mentions in your site. Those two things are the Shrimp Bucket, or more specifically the Shrimp Quesadillas at the Shrimp Bucket; and the Scenic Highway (Accent on High) from Durango to Mazatlán.. I am just an old cowboy from Texas so the valley girls expression 'to die for' does not come to mind often, but if I were to make a list of the foods that are 'to die for', the Shrimp Quesadillas at the Shrimp Bucket would definitely top my list. Even the valley girls have not come up with an expression that adequately describes the scenic drive from Durango. I am going to try, but I really don't think it can be adequately described in print. Map makers certainly can't draw lines as squiggly as this section of road. About 2 years ago, I was extremely stressed out with work and life in general so I decided that a long drive would be wonderful. All the maps I could find showed a relatively straight shot from Waco to Mazatlán. Just go down Interstate 35, cross the border, cross Mexico, and there you are at the Pearl of the Pacific. No hay problema. In a similar state of mind a few years earlier, I had driven to Saltillo and had a very pleasant stay for a few days. That drive was approximately 12 hours including the hour or two break at the border for vehicular harassment. The maps show a much shorter drive from Saltillo to Mazatlán. Saltillo to Durango is nice but uneventful and then, I thought a little drive through the Mountains would be nice. I WAS WRONG! This road has to be 150 to 200 miles in which there is not a straight section of more than ¼ mile. There are no guard rails or hard surfaced shoulders, there is a shear mountain face on one side and a straight drop on the other. The cartoon depiction of a mountain goat clinging to a narrow mountain trail is the best illustration I can think of. I don't really know how high we were because on the rare occasion that I could glance from the 18 wheeler ahead of me or the one coming at me, I could only look down into the clouds. Then throw in the fact that 4 out of 5 vehicles are 18 wheelers (Old 18 wheelers) pulling, sometimes one, but usually 2 trailers at a speed that tops out between 5 and 10 miles per hour. By the way, when a driver ahead of you puts on his left turn signal and the next left turn is 100 miles ahead, he is telling you it is clear to pass him. Most of the drivers in Mexico are very courteous and want to help you, however, there is one or two will put his blinker on for entertainment purposes (his entertainment not yours). Sometimes an 18 wheeler with two trailers is to long and can't make it through one of the hairpin turns. That brings your maximum speed to 0. That drive was one of the worst 6 or 7 hour periods I have ever spent. Thinking back, the stay in Mazatlán made it worthwhile. However, we did decide that rather than going back the way we came, we would go an extra 1,000 miles or so to go down through Guadalajara and back up through Central Mexico. The best advice I can give someone who is thinking of driving in Mexico is do not drive a large SUV in Mexico and if you have Texas license plates on it, visualize yourself inside a large glass piñata. I believe it was a couple of days later, over a Shrimp Quesadilla at the Shrimp Bucket, that I looked up at my wife and said 'I really like this place, we should come back soon'. I don't think she had recovered from the mountain drive and I could see that look coming. You know the look, the one you never want to see on a woman's face. I very quickly added 'I'm sure they have an airport here'. I am planning to visit Mazatlán again soon but it is still looking like I might be FLYING in alone.

It seems there would be a cheaper place to purchase a case of beer than paying for serveral 6 packs. We are coming down in January and if you have any tips that would be helpful. We always stay at the Torres and it is a wonderful place and the best Salsa. Take care. Cheryl

Hello, Thank you for having such a great site. I've been going to mazatlan every year for about the last 7 years, and love it. I noticed last year that the beach had changed, and instead of gradually going out to the ocean, that it just dropped off. We were staying at the playa, and plan on staying there again next month. Can you tell me if it's still like that. I really missed seeing all the vendors walking up and down the beach last year. I've also been watching the weather forcast for mazatlan on my computer and it's saying that your getting scattered showers there everyday, just woundering if that's correct. I'd appreciate any feedback that you can give me, thanks!!

Bringing friends who are celebrating their 50th wedding annivsary. Big shrimp eaters. Where should we go? Tryng to locate Claudia at El Delfin jewelry store. AVOID PARDO JEWELLERS!!! While on a cruise in November 2005 I purchased a Mexican Fire Opal pendant from Pardo Jewellers in the Golden Zone in Mazatlán. As the price was negotiated I noticed the sales people quoted all prices in USD and encouraged purchases on credit cards as they negotiated prices. When I received my credit card bill I noticed I was over charged. Trying not to jump to conclusions I called and e-mailed the jeweller figuring there was a problem with the exchange and they could refund the difference. They did not respond. I returned to Mazatlán April 2006 on another cruise and went to Pardo in person with my original receipt and credit card statement showing I was overcharged and asked for a refund. THEY THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE ME ARRESTED!!!! It was the craziest thing I have ever experienced. Not wanting to take my chances with the Mexican police, I boarded the cruise ship and reported my experience to the shopping consultant on the ship. I was informed MANY, MANY people have been taken advantage of by PARDO JEWELLERS and they are to be avoided. He relayed people losing as much as $7000.00. Please save yourself the headaches I have experienced and avoid this dishonest establishment.

Just a general range. I know that tourists pay a lot per night, but what about someone who is living and working there? I am hoping I can find a nice place for around 600 U.S a month. Also, if you have any information on the reputation of the school that would be helpful too. Thanks again for you nice site. I like your cat pictures! :)

I was just curious how far out of town our resort is. Anyway your site is great, very helpful and informative! Hopefully we'll have the good fortune to run into you guys while we are there, if not take care of one another and keep up the great work!!! Thanks, Cindy

We love Mazatlán, but I need to sell my Timeshare at Costa de Oro. It is paid off in full and has about 9-10 years left on it. I am looking to sell it for around $3500.00. Do you know someone from Mexico or anywhere really, who might be interested in buying it or could tell me about how to sell it to someone that lives near Mazatlán? Please give me any feedback. Thanks. Carla

I would also like to make a comment about Pardo Jewelers. Buyers beware. We were in Mazatlán on the second week of February. We went o Pardo Jewelers to purchase a ring. We were pressured and mislead, I wish we would of walked out. We did purchase a ring for $790.00 and returning home found out the worth was only $350.00. Makes us sick!!!!!!!!!!! After constant calls & faxs NOTHING. I am now in the process of filing a dispute form through our credit card company. You can bet your bottom dollar the next time we're in Mazatlán---I will stand in front of their store and discourage customers from going inside. Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!!!!!

We will be down to Mazatlán April 2nd thru 9th, staying at Playa Mazatlán. Was there last year at the El Cid and did a ton of walking. Like to walk, but also other forms of exercis; does anyone know of a place to rent bikes by the day? And what time does the sun set and rise there? Last year, had dinner at Sheik's (on your recommendation). It was fabulous! Much thanks in advance, Barb

Well We have been going to Mazatlán for almost 8 yrs now. But this year was the worst, was there 3 1/2 days when my wife tripped on those wonderful Mazatlán sidwalks and broke her ankle in 3 places. I had them stabelize it and I took her home, I have heard to many horror stories of people breaking a leg or what not and getting home and finding out things were not done right. So she ended up having eleven screws and a plate put in her ankle. she did a god job on it...so BEWARE OF THOSE SCREWED UP SIDEWALKS!!! All in all we always have a great time there. Senior frogs has sure gone to the dogs. It use to be a very fun place in the evening, went out to Mambo cafe it was ok, but a steady dose of salsa is like a steady dose of tecmo, after 15 min of it you have heard it all. Joes oysterbar played Rap crap!...sooooooo i guess we will be going to cabo sometimes for some good ole rock and roll and r&b...not bad for a couple of 50 yr olds, we meet alot of Canadians and what a bunch of people to have fun with...See ya next year

Hola everyone, Was nice to see you and Nadine on our plane. WE were about 4 rows behind you. I thought I know these ppl and then it clicked in. Also ended up being 2 ppl behind you in the airport. Was at Christines and she said that you were at a celebration at home. Anyway. Had a great time like always. The person that has a message on Jan 16th is right on. Big problem though. This was our 9th time there and always took a beer for a walk on the beach. Headed south our first morning and the police on the melecon called me up and wanted to arrest me. The person I was with was drinking non alcohol beer and left them alone. Me on the other hand I was doing my thing in my pants.(Not really) but felt like it. They hand the handcuffs out and were persistant. They were even going to go across the street to a hotel to get someone to translate. He then radioed in and he showed me to throw the beer in the garbage. I told him I would do that as soon as they called us up. I always take 2 bottles of COLD water for the police on their bikes in the Zone everyday and asked one of them about it. They said to make sure that it's in a plastic cup. No cans or glass bottles. Never went down that stretch of beach again. As we found out I wasn't the only one. Saw a guy sitting on the wall across from the Playa and a police car had stopped and was giving him hassle. Wanted to stick around to see what happened but was forced to keeep walking. Any info on the law would be good as you know that what you hear isn't always right. Just couldn't believe it as we saw MANY ppl walking around with beer. Did the Sheik. Great as always. Can't beat the atmosphere and the food and service. If you want to be right by the ocean make sure that you make a reservation at least in the morning. Tried Ambrosia(?) vegetarian cafe downtown. Not my style but the person I was with wanted to try it. they loved the garlic soup and whatever else they had. Saw clubsand on the menu and thought I was safe. NO. It had tofu, slimmy mushrooms, and phoney meat on it. If you are a person that likes vegetarian food I think that it would be great but just not my style. Told a customer of mine what I had and they thought it would've been great. A must is to go to the Freeman Hotel at the roof top pool area. Just can't beat the view. Still have never made it there for a sunset but they say that it's beautiful. Maybe next year as we are allrady booked. Went on a catamaran ride to see the sealions. We've gone with Captain David (independent man south of balboa tower) He speaks good English and is very informative about the ocean. 350p for the trip. Reasonable for 1 1/12 hrs of his time. He remembers us from year to year. Al Capone is what he calls us. To anyone that may try him, tell him that we sent you. They can always use the referrals. A bunch of us Canadians hang out at Arre LuLu's. Behind the shrimp factory. 3 beer for 33p. Hard to beat that. The food and service is great. The kabob for 75p is hard to beat. Large with rice and vegs. Went to Margaritas. Between all the jewelery stores. Good atmosphere and entertaining. Never had their ribs (as I allready had ribs twice otherplaces) but they say that they are very good. Anyplace that we've eaten, which is lots, always gives you a good sized portion so you better be ready to eat. Find that the beaches were much cleaner this year. (maybe no bottles or cans allowed) Even the short distance that we went south was much cleaner. The main sandcastle scupture was magnicient!!!! It was still (almost intact) for 2 weeks. No one distroyed it. Last time we went to it 2 yrs ago they had invited 4-5 other professionals to take part and that really was something to see. If you're staying somewhere where you cook you can get some drops at the mega store in the veggie area to purify your water to wash your veggies etc in. Instead of using the pruified water that you pay for. Mix 5 drops of that stuff with every 1 liter(a little bit less than a quart for my US friends) of water, mix and put the veggies in for 20 mins. drain, that's all, and let air dry for 20 more mins and they're ready to go. Anyone looking for non Alcohol beer is in luck this year. We had a hard time finding it last year and bought what we could. They seemed to never restock it in the 3 weeks that we were there. This year we had friends pick us some up before we got there to make sure we had some. When we went shopping when we got there we found it all over the place and plentiful. So let's hope that keeps up for the ppl that drink it!!! Which obviously there's lots. Hope I was some help. Any questions feel free to mail me. Adios Pedro

Thank you Nadine/Henry for your recommended restaurants. We were in Mazatlán for a week in Feb. 06 at the beginning of Carnaval and truly enjoyed our visit. The Saloon was fun, Mary's simple/clean and very good, but Torres was so good we went back 3 times. The best food and people during our short visit. Your tips are so helpful and made our week that much more enjoyable. Word of caution for visitors, the Mayan Sea Garden does live up to many of the tales posted and has some problems. We did sit through the time-share presentation and like so many other stories the free comps were not as good as promised. We were treated fairly but my advice if you stay there; keep all dealing with the Mayan at arms length. Eat off site.

Have been looking for a match with our timeshare company for first week in April and just got a call that there is a 2 BR available at the Condominium de Sol in Matzatlan *Avinida Camarón Sábalo Numer 696). There is very little information about this hotel on the website. Do you have any feedback/comments that I would find helpful? We would be traveling with our 4 kids (age 8-18), and have only traveled out of the country x 1 to Acapulco last year. So we are newbies! It's scary to commit to a vacation when you are blindly going to a hotel that offers very little info about itself or area!

Hello Nadine & Henry, You have a real nice site with lots of great Mazatlán info. BUT it would be better if I could find some contact info. For example, I'd like to take a look at the home rentals when I visit in March, but there are no phone numbers, no e-mails, no addresses. I'll never make a reservation sight unseen. Christine's coffee shop looks familiar, I know I've passed by it, I'd like to give it a try as I am a coffee lover, but - no address, no phone number, no e-mail. Her apartments look great too, but....you get the idea! Your live office cam page says you'll likely respond to my e-mail soon...but yours isn't given or at least I couldn't find it - I am easily confused. Your house looks wonderful!

We went on the Tequilla Tour last Christmas day. The Tequilla plantation is not the only site you visit on the tour. You go to a small village first, and have lunch in a Mexican home. The tour guide is amusing and full of information. We went on another tour with the same guide several years ago. The tour, we felt, was well worth the cost.

Love your site. When looking for something new to do in Mazatlán, I found it! Was particularly interested in the shopping in Juarez section. Couple questions: How often does the bus run to and from Juarez from Mazatlán? How long does the trip take? How early does the market open? And finally, your directions said take the bus heading south; if your in the golden zone, is old town south or is el cid marina south? Finally, on a different topic. You have nothing on your site about the tequila distillery tour. I was wondering if you had taken such a tour and if it was worth the time and money. thanks much

We like to stay away from most of the tourist attractions (even for food), seeing how people live etc. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Henry, THIS ISN'T NECESSARILY FOR POSTING ON YOUR SITE...IT'S INTENDED MORE AS A FRIENDLY COMMENT. You've got a great web site - my wife and I have been going to MZT for about a dozen years and I check you site for what's new each year. Some of the things we've learned over the years that I haven't found on your site: Getting around - You've got four choices. You can walk, take a bus, take a taxi or take a pulmonia -- (pronounced 'pull-ma-KNEE-ah'). Walking gives you more of an opportunity to learn about the city. The buses are cheap and plentiful; but they stop running late at night. So if you go to Senior Frogs and stay late, realize that you're gonna have to take a taxi or a pulmonia home. The taxis are all small and they are generally cheaper than the pulmonias. pulmonias are a cross between a golf cart and a Volkswagen that most tourists (and locals) use. You'll often also see little pick-up trucks with bench seats in the back carrying folks around. They're called an aurega (sp?) and that's pronounced 'owl--REE--ga' (you gotta roll your 'r'). If you've got more than three people and you need to go further than you want to walk -- they're cheaper than getting two pulmonias. Both taxi and pulmonia fares are negotiable. ALWAYS tell the driver where you want to go and ask how much. You can usually get the ride for about half to two-thirds of their initial quote. The same things true about buying treasures from the tourist oriented shops in the Golden Zone. If there isn't a price marked on the item…negotiate. Managing Money -- I usually bring a few hundred dollars in American cash in ones and fives. I also usually bring some fifties in case of some emergency. We bring a few hundred dollars in Traveler's Checks. There are lots of places in the Golden Zone where you can trade them in for pesos -- the exchange rate varies almost daily but, generally, the difference between money exchange places doesn't amount to much. I've found that bartering in American cash often gets you a better deal, be it with taxi/pulmonia drivers or at the Golden Zone shops. When dining out or buying food at one of the super stores (Leys, Giaganti, Wal-Mart), I use a credit card (Mastercard and Visa are commonly accepted. Sometimes they take American Express, but Discover Card isn't accepted in MZT). The reason, the exchange rate for credit card purchases is much better than at the MZT money exchanges. Also, NEVER pay for a meal or other purchase with Traveler's Checks -- the restaurant or merchant's exchange rate will cost you at least 5% on your money. I also take a few $2 bills along (when I can find them) -- for whatever reason the Pulmonia drivers seem to like them and you can usually get a better price if you show them the bill when you're bartering. The Greatest Show on Earth -- Most days the sunsets in MZT are breathtaking. In February, the sun sets about 6 PM. Be near the beach and away from behind the off-coast islands. Depending on the day, the most picturesque time is about 15 minutes AFTER the sun sets. Some days the sunsets are nothing to note…but a at least a couple of times a week they're unbelievable. Beverages -- Your choices for soda in MZT are limited. You're pretty much limited to Coke, Sprite and (sometimes) Pepsi. Diet varieties are available for all of those except that the Diet Coke is called 'Coca Cola Light'. I think it's actually better tasting than Diet Coke…they use a different artificial sweetener. Mexican beer is without parallel. 'Pacifico', the local brew, is exceptional. Shopping -- If going to be in MZT for only a week and you're not in a unit that allows cooking, you can pick up snacks at the numerous little grocery stores located everywhere. If you're going to be doing some of your own cooking you'll need to go to Gigante or Leys. They've got a good selection of food, fresh meat, bakery goods and liquor. They're kinda like a Mexican version of a Super Target or Wal-Mart. (There is a Wal-mart and a Sam's Club in MZT, but I can shop there state-side). The real experience -- and one you've got to do -- is to go to the Central Market (Mercado) in the old part of MZT. There's a wide variety of shops including fresh fruit/vegetable stands, clothing shops (it's the only place that has 3X Mazatlán t-shirts) and lots of tourist type stuff. Go EARLY in the day -- especially if it's a hot day -- otherwise the meat market can be...'distracting'. To get there, catch the 'Sábalo Centro' bus and it takes you there. To go back to your hotel, remember that the streets on each side of the Mercardo are one-way streets. So go to the corner of Benito Juárez and Leandro Valle (which is on the west side of the Mercado) to go back to the Golden Zone or catch a pulmonia back. Make sure you go to the Cathedral (about a block away from the Mercado) before you head home. Timeshare sales -- We've learned that more often than not if a local (even a cab driver) starts talking to you and seems interested in where you came from, etc. they're lining you up for a time share pitch. We've learned that WHENEVER anyone asks how long we're gonna be in Mazatlán, we answer that we're leaving tomorrow. With that response, the sales folks usually lose interest because then they can't talk you into a tour. Fiesta Mexicana -- This is a dinner show event at the Hotel Playa. The variety show includes folk dancing, comedians and musical entertainment. It's Tuesday and Saturday at 6 pm. It has an excellent Mexican all-you-can-eat buffet including both Mexican and gringo food. The drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are included in the price. I think it's still about $25/person. I enjoyed it and would go again. Keeping up with world events -- Most of the hotels have cable, which means you can catch CNN on occasion. Gringo newspapers are tough to find. You might find a USA Today in a few places but they're expensive (about $2-3 a copy) and it's often a day old. Mazatlán Restaurants - The restaurants you didn't rate that we like include: Ponchos -- This used to be our favorite place, but it's getting more and more modernized. It's right on the beach and the food and service is exemplary. I'd recommend the pork chops -- they're grilled and very tasty. Tony's On the Beach -- This is fast becoming our favorite place. Again, right on the beach with great food and service. La Casa Country -- I like this place more than my wife does. The food is great but the atmosphere is pretty "USA". Jungle Juice -- This place has also modernized since we started going to MZT. Their breakfasts are good. They also have a couple of computers they'll let you use to check your email -- while you're waiting for your food. my wife loves their fresh fruit 'smoothies'. Munchkins -- This is more of a 'hut' than a building. It's a place frequented mostly by gringos. The food and service is good and the prices are very reasonable. La Marina Tennis & Yacht Club -- This is where we stay. Their restaurant caters mostly to the condo residents. They have great breakfasts and excellent lunch sandwiches (BLT, cheeseburgers, etc.). On Friday nights (and sometimes other nights of the week) they have a supper 'special' which is usually very good and not expensive. Otherwise they close about 3 in the afternoon and aren't open for supper. Kathleen and I agree that, regardless of what other web sites say, La Marina has the best cheeseburgers & fries in MZT. La Fonda -- This is a favorite of Kathleen and mine. It's hidden away in the 'El Rancho' condo complex about a block south of Torres Mazatlán (it's not even on MazTravel's maps). We don't go there so much for the food (and the food is good) but for the atmosphere. This is basically a grass hut on stilts that overlooks the beach. At sunset the view is breathtaking. If you don't see exactly what you want on the menu, the cook (her name is Lupita) will custom prepare whatever you want. It's the only place in Mazatlán where I regularly tip the cook. No Name Café -- This is a sports bar that has, what I think, the best BBQ ribs in MZT. The other food is good as well. Pedro & Lolas -- This is a great restaurant located in old Mazatlán. It's kinda tough to find, but the food and atmosphere was great. Bings -- This is an ice cream only place. But it has spectacular ice cream. Also, in the little stores around the tourist zone, look in the ice cream freezers for a ice cream bar called 'Magnum'….they make Dove bars obsolete. Stuff to bring along: Binoculars (especially if you have an ocean-side room), Anti-bacterial hand cleaner (a little bottle to carry with you and use before you dine), a windbreaker (it can get cool at night), and tanning oil (the good stuff is REALLY expensive down there). Take care Henry...see you at the fundraiser on Feb 5! By the way...what's the appropriate attire for that event? Mark K.

Hi, Sorry to use this for asking questions....but I couldn't see a direct e-mail address. I recently came across a item on the Mision del Angel, supposedly on Icebox Hill. It has 17 rooms. The e-mail address that was listed is not valid, and I've bee trying to get more info about the place, rates, availability etc. Someone gave me an address for the Apartments del Angela, but this is not the same place. I hope maybe since you are there, you may have some first hand info or someone reading this might know. Thanks, Brian

I was amazed to read one reader's comments about the Mayan Sea Garden and the terrible experience they had there. We stayed there in January, 2005, and really liked it. We were told it was a "new" building (I guess you can't believe anything), but we had no problems with odors. Our room did overlook the parking lot and we were told that "non-owners" got those rooms. Owners got rooms overlooking the pool and bay. We preferred the Sea Garden to the larger newer ones because it was so compact, close to the pool and grocery/convenience store. Everything was paved when we were there. This year we are visiting Mazatlán January 23-30th. I bought a book at a book sale about moving to Mexico and have to say I'm definitely considering the idea in a couple years, or so. Would love to make contact with you and get first hand information about that possibility. A friend who lives near Reno gave me your Reno phone number and address, but I knew you would be in Mazatlán at this time. We are both still working and wondering if we can ever afford to retire in Des Moines, Iowa. Real estate and other taxes are very high, and, worst of all, it is COLD.

First I have to say how much I love your site. I return to it often and always find information that I'd missed earlier. My husband and I are giving serious consideration to purchasing a home in Mexico, and Mazatlán is our first choice as we love the town. We have not been able to spend an extended period of time there as yet. Can you give me more detailed information on the climate during the "off season" of June through October? Does rainy season mean typhoons or simply to expect showers on a daily basis? Also, any updates to your comments and observations on the various neighborhoods would be appreciated. Again, thanks so much for the site. It is really the best I have found.

We are planning a trip to Mazatlán in February. Several years ago we hosted two exchange students from mexico and would love to contact them before our trip. Is there directory assistance for Maxico?? I have not had any luck finding anything. They lived in Los Mochis. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'd like to thank you for your web site. I have never been to Mazatlán but I have a (solo) trip booked for Feb. 7-21, and I've found a goldmine of information on your site, much of which I'm printing out for reference once I get there. I haven't come across any info (yet) concerning laundry; Might the hotel (I'm registered at Azteca Inn) have a laundromat facility, or might there be such facilities in the Golden Zone area? My preferences in music - I call myself a "superannuated folkie" - would be of the "singer-songwriter" type, with acoustic accompaniment (preferably on guitar), and I'm wondering if this kind of live entertainment (in Spanish of course) would be available in Mazatlán. I'm well aware that you may not have time to answer my query, but I still want to emphasize how useful I have found your site. Thanks again! rg
