The Living Room

Here we are inside the living room, looking back at the entry way. Here is a shot of the TV area. Why are there two tvs? Well the big one is the one we watch, and I use the little one to program the VCRs that are underneath in the cabinets. Also we got rid of our stereo this year, and replaced it with a slimp3 from slimdevices.com. This is a great little gadget that lets you stream all of your mp3s from a computer to your stereo via ethernet. By the way, we really hate commercials (doesn't everybody) but I wanted to keep our house an MFZ (Microsoft Free Zone) so this year I finally got around to putting together my own TIVO like system. I'm using a Hauppauge PVR-350, and it works like a charm using the IVTV Linux drivers. The little mirrored elephants were part of the treasure we brought back from our trip around the world in 1992, when we visited Thailand. Above them is another Osorio painting. Here is the middle of the living room, with a view of the patio out the back windows. It's Christmas time (Nadine's favorite time of the year) and we just put up our Christmas tree. Santa tied one on last night, and is a little unstable on the top of the tree. The artwork along the top of the photo came from Mazatlan and Lake Tahoe. The large pieces came from now defunct Mazatlan Art Gallery, and the smaller ones from an arts and crafts fair in Kings beach, when we used to live in Incline Village. At the other end of the living room is the dining area. The long black rectangular thing is a water fountain. The statue on the dining room table is by Victor Gutierrez,, and the large 3d wall sculpture of Albert Einstein is by Bill Mack, and is called The Thinker. Here is our China cabinet, where we keep all of our chatchkas. I have always been into nice dishes and glassware, so it is very difficult for me to get out of the Macy's crystal section without bringing something home. My favorites are usually by Orrefors., and the ones you see here are called Intermezzo
