We are getting ready to go for another "fun filled days" at our home away from home "Mazatlan"...we have soooooooo many good memories of Mazatlan and one in patuclar that stands out. We just had lunch at the "Puria vidia" a quant little place and when we got done back at our time share, which we stay, i couldnt find my wallet i had over 600 pesos in it at the time and $50.00 American money. i just freeked out telling my wife " o my im in Mecico ill never see it again" so i went back down to where we had lunch and ask the manager if he had seen a wallet that someone left. He ask what my name was and i told him, he went to the back and came back with my wallet!, I told him thank you soooo very much...he himself was Mexican and he told me "better be carefull senior, dont forget your in Mexico", with a sly grin on his face. when i got back to where i was staying i had exactly the same amount of money minus the $20.00 American dollars that i had given him for keeping my wallet safe. i know i have heard some horror stories but this is a plesant one for us. If there is anyone intrested in a time share we have ours for sale at the Royal Villas it is a big ocean front unit. ill make someone a good deal. reason for selling, my wife just became a Flight Attendant for Alaska Airlines and we now stay pretty much where she stays. also we are traveling to other mexican cities.
Have stayed at Ixtapa 3 times (hotel row) at the Dorado Pacifico and then we rented a condo at the Continental Plaza 2 times. The condos are lovely but the pool swim up bar are really in need of repair. Whereas the Dorado's pool , restaurants etc are lovely. But you are back to a hotel room...also stayed one week in Zihua which was wonderful except it was 200 steps down to the beach and no pool.. We are looking for a nice place with a beautiful view to look at the water but must have a pool. With what I am reading about Mazatlan, it looks like it is a place to look at. Any infor would be appreciated, we need 2 bedrooms and pullout sofa,,,,,,kids still want to come along. Thanks Barbara
I wandered across your site as I was surfing the net, and was intrigued by the fascinating stories and pictures you have there. However, your description of medical care in the United States and your opinions of the physicians here are very arrogant and near-sighted. It completely ruined my opinion of your site, and will not be visiting again.
Actually I have a question. I am trying to find out any information about the beaches in Mazatlan. Are they white sanded and is the water clean? Thanks
Thank you for creating and maintaining such an invaluable web-site ! We recently visited Mazatlan and found it to be precisely as you have described it. We enjoyed walking through old Mazatlan and soaking up the character of the area. Pedro & Lola's was a great place to eat and listen to Jazz. We tried several of the restaurants you mentioned and they were equally great. My wife enjoyed the pulmonias. They are everywhere ! We took one from our hotel (Costa De Oreo) to the airport for 150 pesos. The only disappointing part of the trip was leaving.
We have stayed in Mazatlan several times - always in hotels or timeshares. This yr. we purchased a motor home, so will be driving down- from Nogales, Az., in early March. We love it there- the food is excellent- Los Arcos, the No Name, Guadalahara & several small places in the old city. The people are so nice & helpful, we have never felt threatened or ill at ease. We made friends with a group from N.M. several yrs. ago & would have pot luck dinners with them on Fri. nights. We are so looking forward to being there this yr. & for a longer period of time. We will have our 2 pomeranians with us, so have to be sure & find a dog friendly campground. They even have a VFW there- in the back of the No Name- & they have bingo- which was great fun & I happened to be lucky enough to win. Can't wait. Any suggestions will be great.... Thanks
Hello, I just wanted to say that you have a great and informative website. I have been to Mazatlan 3 times already and next July I am going again for the 4th time and I have to say out of all the places that I have been to so far in my life (including Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France) my favorite place ever is Mazatlan, Mexico. It is the best place ever and I love the people and atmosphere and the way that it makes me feel when I am there. It is like "theres something in the air", I suppose I could say that for me it is magical. Unfortuantely it is so hard for me to leave Mazatlan and honestly I usually tend to get very depressed when I come back, and it takes me a long time to get over the fact that I am not there anymore. It is the best place for teens and me and my friends have the most awesome time. Mazatlan is way better than Cancun or Puerto Vallarta or any other city in Mexico. I have been thinking that I would love to move there someday. I was just wondering if you had any suggestions as to whether or not that would be a good idea? I mean I love the city, I love the people, but I am worried about not being able to find a job there in the future when I am finished university. P.S If there is anyone that is considering going to Mazatlan or looking for a place to vacation then Mazatlan is definitely it. I can not stress how wonderful Mazatlan truly is. ( I just came back this July and I couldn't keep away so I already booked another vacation there for next July!)CANT WAIT TO GO BACK!!
I just came across your site and found it very helpful. I exchanged a timeshare for a week in Mazatlan during Christmas. Only problem is that airfares at this point are extremely expensive from NYC. Was thinking of flying to El Paso and taking a bus from Ciudad Juarez. Do you know which line goes from Juarez to Mazatlan and what their phone or email address might be? Would love it if I could find someone in the bus company who speaks English. Thank you. Paul
My wife and I will be returning to MZT for the 11th year this February - obviously, we love it there - and want to share an interesting happening we experienced a couple of years ago. We stopped at a restaurant and ordered lunch;I also ordered a beer. When the waiter returned, he brought along two beers. When I reminded him that I only ordered one he replied with a smile "Happy Hour!". Okay....so I didn't argue a lot. When the bill came I noticed that I was charged more for the beer than was indicated on the menu. When I called that fact to the attention of the waiter, he replied with the same smile "Happy Hour Prices!!!". So be aware...the liquor price on the menu may not be the one they charge at "Happy Hour".

We really enjoyed going through your site. We found it to be very informative and helpful. We are considering moving to Mazatlan in the near future(3-6 mos) due to a job transfer. We have 2 school aged children, one 16 yr old girl and a 7 yr. old girl. Wondering if you might point us in the right direction regarding schools. We're thinking private schools. Is there anyone that you know whom we can contact? We've checked the web for real estate sites, but there sure aren't many. Is there a MLS system in Mazatlan? We've found 50-60 homes for sale on the web, but there has to be many more than that. Any ideas? Thanks for the help Rick and Francine
My husband and I are coming back to Mazatlan on October 31, 2003 for ten days. We are staying at the Luna Palace this trip and was wondering if anyone had any feedback on this resort. Thanks, Lisa email@example.com
What a great web site! Need some info. Pueblo Bonito Emarald Bay. Stayed a week in early March 2003. They were working on a new phase. The completion of the new phase was to include a 2nd kitchen. Is this new phase completed? Reason I'm asking is, with only one kitchen for the restaurant,Kellys' Bar and room sevice, the staff had a hard time keeping up with demand. Also, has anyone taken the Pacifico Brewery Tour? If so, how was it? Thanks in advance.
My husband and I were in Mazatlan over 20 years ago for our honeymoon and from the look (and read) of things, things have changed! We would like to try to get more information about the Estrella del Mar condos and the surrounding area. This area doesn't show up on any Mazatlan sites or maps other than to mention the golf course. What's around there? What's the name of the beach? Is it so full of ongoing construction that it might be too loud or busy with workers? Is the beach safe? ETC...? We'd love any information to help us decide whether or not that's the place for us to visit next June for one to two weeks with our family and another family.
In just 116 days I will be the chubby little lady in the black swinsuit standing up to her knees in the Sea of Cortez between La Marina and Playa Escondida Condos with a Pacifico in one hand and a plastic bag half full of seashells in the other. Fly time, fly! Bless you Henry and Nadine for this lifeline.

My husband and I truly loved Mazatlan. First time for us.We stayed at the El Cid Moro Tower which was outstanding. City Tour was good and Stone Island was an experience. Loved everything about Mazatlan. People are so friendly...food was cheap and very good and the shopping was great. Would recommend it to anyone and would love to return there.
They had to drag me back on the plane to go home, what wonderful people. We stayed at Pueblo Bonita, small and intimate compared to how the others looked from the street. Wonderful staff, very attentive. Met a wonderful man who was our taxi driver/tour guide. Speaks English well and was very knowledgable about the area. His name is Martin and you can call him on his cell phone and he will pick you up 044 669 932 82 11. Patti at the consulate was very helpful. I am coming back with my teenage boys in July, have been invited to Martin's family for dinner and music. The locals are wonderful, don't be afraid to make alot of friends. Great website, would have been lost without it.
Thank you for your website. We will be leaving for Mazatlan the end of this month and will be staying for about 10 days. Most of the time we will be at the Emerald Bay but will also stay the last few days at a different hotel (undetermined yet). My question is this, I read that you don't recommend a car while we are there. I was wondering if the Emerald Bay is tied into the bus system there? We will rent a car for a few days since we like to venture off to other towns as well.
HENRY & NADINE JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR WEB SITE. MY TWO DAUGHTERS AND I SPENT A WEEK IN MATAZLAN THE FIRST PART OF MAY. WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. MY OLDEST DAUGHTER HAD BROUGHT A COPY OF PART OF YOUR WEB SITE WITH HER AND WE USED IT A LOT FOR RESTAURANT AND SITE SEEING. IT WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY AND WE WERE NEVER DISAPPOINTED. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR MAKING OUR FIRST TRIP TO MATAZLAN A DELIGHT.
Enjoyed the site. I have not been to Mazatlan but have been to PV and many other Mexican areas. We have a lot at El Dorado Ranch, Baja, CA and spend a month or two there every year. We are taking our family to Mazatlan for an early 50th Wedding Anniversay. It really is our 47th but My wife had a stroke in October 02 and it made us realize that we don't really know what tomorrow will bring. We have the funds to go so why put it off. The coupons are great. My only recommendations would be to add a page number so one could only print the coupons that one is interested in. Don
we are interested in mazatlan. just need some info. we have been to cancun twice, playa del carmen and zihuatanejo and troncones. we are not into the americanization of cancun. liked playa a lot. loved troncones and zihua very very much. we like laid back stuff. we like to watch sunrise, walk the beach, have breakfast outside, walk somemore. park our buts on chairs w/ a palapa nearby and start ordering cold cervezas around 10am and just sunbathe and read all day. love fun happy hours. then little nap and dinner and drinks and bed around 11pm. would this be our kind of place? my husband has a very stressful job and likes to just relax and smoke stogies all day long. any info you could provide would be greatly appreicated. you can just email me. also, places to stay. nothing lavish. need bed, fan, bathroom w/ hot shower and maybe a porch or balcony w/ ocean view. thanks in advance.
Thank you for your web site. We just returned from Maz and love it there. We stayed at Royal Villas -- wonderful timeshare swap. We bought a lot in El Cid and are planning to retire there. Any suggestions on building will be appreciated. Bob and Sue
My friends and I frequent Mazatlan twice a year and we stay three wks. If what you want is to explore and indulge in the day and boogie the night away and feel like you are in "real" mexico and not a flashy touristy city, Mazatlan is the BEST! The people are friendly and the ambient of it all is amazing. Food is mouth watering and the beaches are breath taking. MY friends and I plan to visit now (we're in our mid 20's) til we turn grey. I think the word to describe Mazatlan is MARVELOUS
It's been 4 weeks since we left for Mazatlan, and I'm ready to return! I need to win the lottery so we can go there more than every other year. This was our 3rd time there and we stayed at the HOTEL PLAYA MAZATLAN, which suits me just fine. The grounds are great and kept very clean, and it has four pools and an out door hot tub. The rooms are more than adequate, and made up every day. We haven't had an ocean room yet, since we really don't spend time in the room, except to sleep, shower and get dressed. This time we took our 11-year-old daughter, went with a couple other friends (Todd & Tracy), and Lynda's brother, wife and 14-year-old daughter went too. This worked out pretty well. Blue Cactus, Shrimp Bucket, Pedro & Lola's, Guadalajara Grill, Mango's, Poncho's are a few of the places we ate at during our 11 day stay. We also discovered THE WOODSTOCK BAR, which is a fun place, maybe a little more for the younger crowd, but we ranged from 39 to 54 and enjoyed it. Maybe because Aldofo, one of the owners was extremely hospitable. (Look for our names on the wall, and my personalized IDAHO License plate. (KARL) To get money, we initially traded in a little US$ then used our debit card at the ATM to get cash, which was all we used then, except I used a credit card at the Senior Frog stores a couple times. This works out best, to have cash, (Pesos) and you get the best rate. There's a Scotia Bank SATM across from the Shrimp Factory, which is across from the Hotel. We took the two girls horseback riding at GINGERS BILINGUAL HORSES, which they enjoyed very much. I'm ready to go back, until we do I'll have to look at my pictures and check out web site Check out my pictures here: (http://community.webshots.com/album/69497536ceLilL) (http://community.webshots.com/album/69974210eeJldH) (http://community.webshots.com/album/70354692iTUyUv)
This is in response to Laura. I'm from Mazatlan, and I'm responding to you regarding the air fare. It depends where you bought it, but it is very high. I was checking out online fares and most run at a max of $350 for round trip, and some are as low as $270 round trip for December from Los Angeles, CA. There are many websites you can get good prices at. Try hotwire.com. Obviously, it is that cheap because December is 8 months away.
i also am staying at the paraiso del mar the week of new years eve,, how come i cannot find any info on it,, is it really the seagarden? also air fare is 900 dollars,, whats thay all about????? whats the cheapest route?,, 900 dollars is enough to make me cancell.. dont the goverment want us tourists there? thanks in advance.. laura
Hello, I'm writing this email in the hope that you might have some answers for me! I just got back from Mazatlan where I spent 2 weeks there. I stayed at my Mexican friend's house, and totally loved it there. This was my 2nd trip to Mazatlan. However, this trip has changed a lot for me. I met wonderful people, and I also discovered a place where people are happy no matter how much money they make, and no matter what their living conditions are. I have also found a place where there is no stress, and so when I came back here, I asked myself a lot of questions such as "Why do we have so much stress ?", "Why do we live the way we live ?", "Why aren't we never happy with what we have" etc etc. You know what I mean...Moreover, the war and everything that's been happening lately hasn't helped. In short, I'm looking for peace! I would like to add that I'm a French citizen. Fortunately for me, I do not live in Texas, or my life would be hell! I'm in Seattle. Anyway, I'm planning on moving to Mazatlan. As I have been traveling all my life, the move and the change in my life don't scare me. The only concern that I have is "How to find a job there ?". Also, I might have concerns about how to get a visa. Some of my Mexicans told me about time-share ? Therefore, I was wondering if you could help me, give me some advices etc. I would really appreciate any kind of answers. Thank you so much for your time, which, I'm sure, is precious! Cecilia RB

Thank you, Henry and Sr. Gomez. This information from Sr. Gomez will help in our efforts with the bank to get reimbursed - we hope. We have been asked by our bank to file a police report locally this week. Sr. Gomez, please feel free to contact us regarding charges made if the information would be helpful to you, or your bank, in tracking down the persons responsible. I am a huge supporter of revitalization, and it is one of the reasons we wanted to visit that area when we were in Mazatlan. I wish you continued successes and protection from those who make your efforts more difficult.
i just came back from mazatlan...i was there for 1 1/2 months...and i live in cancun...right now its 4:41Am and i just cant wait to go back in september for another month....there is something special about mazatlan...the food?...the beer?....the girls?....or its just maybe the people.i just hope that i could stay longer than a month.wich i probably will....i hope :D (Get me a job and a girl...nevermind....iôll find the girl) JK :P
Nadine, Henry, or any Mazatlan travelers: I'm actually looking for information on a particular resort called Paraiso del Mar in Mazatlan. I've booked it (traded my timeshare through RCI) for my 4 adult children and myself for two weeks over X'mas and RCI has very little info on it. (I have the feeling it's small and not the greatest, but I needed a two bedroom for two consecutive weeks and jumped on it). I do know it's in the cluster consisting of the Sea Garden and Vidafel, and the location looks good, but if you have any further info on the units themselves, I'd greatly appreciate it! Love your website. So informative!! Andi Smith
We were in Mazatlan Dec 28-Jan 4, 2003. My husband used his debit card only once - at Pedro & Lola's. We tried to use it our last day at Vidafel resort, but they said their machine was not working. Anyway, in the last 3 days (starting March 31), over $700 worth of charges have come thru from Mazatlan. Someone at one of these places hhad evidently copied his card. Since it was a debit card and not a credit card, we are not sure at this moment whether we will ever get reimbursed. Just wanted to let everyone know of the dangers using the card at one of these 2 places. BEWARE!
thanks for the neat bottle of wine. most thoughtful of you. but i can't figure out how so many people knew my birthday is coming up. i will just enjoy it all the more. love, mary
My friend and I just came back from Mazatlan... gosh!!!!!! we miss it so much!!! It's just a PERFECT place to go for spring break... even though Cancun is popular, I think Mazatlan is even BETTER!!!!!!! The people there are AWESOME... they're friendly, they're sweet and they're very sociable!!! PS, i just came back few hours ago and i miss Mazatlan soo much!! Do consider Mazatlan for your vacation (if you're a college student!)
I am sorry you have not seen the GREEN FLASH!!! My family and I experienced it July 12th, 1990 on the beach in Yachats, Oregon. My dad had always told us about it. We waited many sunsets to see what we thought was just a joke..But all 17 of us there, for a family reunion saw it that evening. We spoke to friends about it weeks later; and found that they had also seen it that same day further up the coast. I am a believer!
We leave with friends next Friday for Mazatlan. It will be my husbands' and my first time to Mexico. We are looking forward to it. I found your website and enjoy reading your thoughts and recommendations. If you have any thing specific to suggest, please do so. We will be staying at Tores..I would like to see some of old Mexico so we plan a day trip out side of Mazatlan. I would also love to know if there is any wonderful snorkeling or quiet beaches... Thanks for your web site. Maxine
HI i just wanted to say that anyone that is going to Mazatlan will have a WONDERFUL time - i had a blast - i went down for 4 days and that wasnt enough - if you're going then i suggest going for at least 7 days - the bars and night clubs are fantastic - the ocean is beautiful. Hi Henry and Nadine Hadn't been to Mazatlan for almost 20 years, and was pleasantly suprised on a on a recent one week visit. Much cleaner than I'd remembered, and the locals were much friendlier than recent experiences in Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. Seafood was dissappointingly expensive (but the ribs at the No Name Cafe were incredible, and Los Arcos, as per your recommendation for seafood was a wonderful experience) I was exceedingly dissapointed with Ernie Tomatoes, and must highly recommend Panchos, for morning, noon , and night dining perfection. Thanks for your informative site and the useful coupons! Paul Lebrun
I wanted to thank you for the valuable advice and information. My wife and I recently had a one day (much too brief) cruise ship stopover in Mazatlan. Thanks to your helpful recommendations, we enjoyed the Aquarium and gardens (used the coupon); but one of the absolute highlights of our seven-day trip was the food at Los Arcos. We both agree that the Zarandeado (whole) was the best fish either of us has ever tasted, and the shrimp & lobster combo was very tasty. We also were lucky to catch it on a less busy day, and had a relaxing and pleasant experience. I certainly appreciate all the work you have done.
